Mary Burgess
Manager
Mary Burgess joined
CTET as an instructional designer in 2002. In 2004 she became a
member of the METRO.learn Moodle team where she enjoyed the
challenges of representing many interests in the development of a new learning
platform.
Mary’s background includes both instructional design and IT work for public and
private post-secondary institutions. Her research interests include
universal access to technology, online community building and the
development of custom educational technology tools.
Mary has a BA in Liberal Studies from the University of Victoria, a certificate in
the Applied Management of Information Technologies from the
University of Victoria, and she is working on an MEd in Educational
Technologies at the University of British Columbia.
Mary and her husband are thrilled to be first time parents to a
very energetic young girl after many years of being parents of a lazy
cat. |

Doug Hamilton
Chair of Faculty Development
Doug Hamilton joined the CTET team as
Chair of Faculty Development in April 2005. Doug's role is to lead the
university’s efforts in supporting high quality teaching by working
closely with both core and associate faculty. He is also responsible for
promoting, encouraging and engaging in the scholarship of teaching and
learning practices. Prior to joining CTET, Doug was the Associate Dean
of the Organizational Leadership and Learning Division, as well as the
Director of the MA in Leadership and Training program and the Director
of the MA in Distributed Learning program.
Doug has a PhD from the University of Toronto and an MA from the
University of Saskatchewan. His scholarly interests involve learning,
learning and more learning: namely, action learning, problem-based
learning and online learning. When Doug's not at work, you can find him
cycling, running or hiking, preferably somewhere that's reasonably
exotic and out of the transmission range of his Blackberry.

B.J. Eib
B.J. Eib joined the
Centre for Teaching and Educational Technologies in January 2008 as
an instructional designer. Originally from Indiana, B.J. became a
Canadian citizen in 2007 in Calgary, Alberta. She has a strong
background in professional development with an emphasis on effective
use of educational technologies. Most recently, B.J. provided
faculty development and served as Inquiry and Blended Learning
Program Consultant for the Teaching and Learning Centre at U of C.
She is the liaison to the School of Tourism and Hospitality Management,
Continuing Studies, and Professional Communications (graduate
programs).
B.J. lives in Cobble
Hill with her partner and four dogs – two newfs, two labs – and enjoys most anything in the out-of-doors including
hiking, camping, canoeing, swimming, and biking.

Elizabeth Wellburn
Elizabeth Wellburn has been with RRU in various capacities
(including a recent stint as Acting Director) since 1999 and is
currently an instructional designer in CTET, with responsibility as the
liaison for the School of Environment & Sustainability.
Elizabeth has a BA (Psychology) from Simon Fraser University and an MA
(Educational Psychology) from the University of British Columbia. Before
coming to Royal Roads, she spent many years in positions where she was
involved in the use of technology for learning, including corporate
sector training and also within the provincial government's Ministry of
Education.

Ining Tracy Chao
on maternity leave
Ining
Tracy Chao is an instructional designer in CTET. She is the CTET
liaison for the School of Peace and Conflict Management.
Ining collaborates with faculty on
course development and action research initiatives. With a
Master's degree in Educational Technology and a Bachelor's degree in
Information and Library Science, Ining applies her analytical and
design skills in a wide range of subject areas. She
sees her work in instructional design as a pursuit for lifelong
learning. She has conducted
and published on research in ICT in education, second
language learning and technology,
and quality standards for online learning.
Ining
is fluent in Mandarin Chinese and English. Her personal interests include
hiking and biking. She has
also performed and choreographed modern dance for over 15 years.
She considers her most recently acquired skill - being a
mother – to be the most difficult educational task ever put in front
of her!

Sandra Rogers
Sandra Rogers has been with RRU since July 2004, working as an instructional
designer for CTET, and her primary responsibility is working with faculty and
university staff to produce online courses. She is the CTET liaison
for the School of Communication and Culture and the School of Leadership
Studies.
Prior to arriving at RRU, Sandra was a media instructor and program
administrator at Capilano College in North Vancouver. After 18 years in
Vancouver, Sandra decided to make the move back to Victoria to join RRU. Sandra's
educational background includes a
BAA in Instructional Media (1985) from Ryerson University, and an
MEd in Information Technology (2005) from Memorial University.

Terri Bateman
Terri Bateman joined
CTET in April 2006 as an instructional designer. She is the CTET
liaison for the Faculty of Management.
Her background
includes web and instructional design for post secondary institutions.
She has a long held interest in online education, web standards and
accessibility.
Terri has a BA
(Sociology/English) from the University of Victoria and a diploma in
Digital Media Technology from Malaspina University College and is
currently working toward a Master’s Degree in Educational Technology
from UBC. When not stuck in front a computer or catering to her two
cats, Terri enjoys digital photography, reading and golf.

Tracy Roberts
Tracy Roberts joined CTET as an
instructional designer in 2004, spent some time on the METRO.learn/Moodle
development team and with the Project Planning Group, and is now back
with CTET team in spirit, while she works remotely from the Okanagan.
Tracy is also the chair of the Steering Committee for B.C.’s Educational
Technologies Users Group
(etug).
Prior to joining the RRU community, Tracy was at Simon Fraser University
for several years - studying, working, and teaching in the Faculty of
Education, Centre for Online & Distance Education, and the Professional
Development Program (teacher education). Her graduate work focused on
teachers' relationships with technology and how they use it in
post-secondary, teacher education, and K-12 teaching.
Tracy's current interests include all the fun Web 2.0 stuff, Moodle, and
finding the best online tools to bridge the gap between people
teaching/learning and working at a distance.

Interactive Media Developers:

Carlos da Cruz Alves
Carlos is currently working as
an Interactive Media Developer in CTET. He
started with CTET in June 2007 as a co-op student, and then worked part-time as a Web
Developer.
In his native Brazil, Carlos developed a
variety of multimedia products, using audio (ProTools) and video editing
(Vegas), and also worked as a Computer, Audio, and Video Consultant, and a
Radio producer and technician. He completed a course on new
media technologies with the staff of GLOBO, the largest communication
company in South America (in HDTV, and streaming technologies), and his
background there includes being a Computer Programming Lab Teacher, and
a private Math and Physics teacher. He has knowledge of different
computer languages and Operating Systems. He plans to
continue his education by taking a Master Degree in Learning and
Technology in the future.
Carlos
is fluent in English and Portuguese, and can understand Spanish and
French. He lives in Victoria with his wife Silvia, and his son, Oliver.
When he is not busy, you can find him playing drums in his church. He
loves to travel, and he sponsors a child through World Vision.

Gary Wilson
Gary Wilson joined
Royal Roads University in May 2000 and is
currently an Interactive Media Developer with the Centre for
Teaching and Educational Technologies. Prior to RRU, Gary worked for 5 years at the Office of
the Auditor General (Victoria). His background
includes web development, computer programming
and computer hardware/software support.
Gary has a diploma in Computer Systems
Technologies. He enjoys fishing, camping,
antique cars, photography, and he has a strange
need to build and collect boats.

Kristy Gislason
Kristy joined CTET in July
2008 as an E-Learning Technician.
She has worked at RRU in
several capacities since July 2005,
first with the School of Leadership Studies as an E-Learning
Support Associate and then
with the Centre for Applied Leadership and Management supporting
custom and executive programs.
A native Winnipegger,
Kristy also spent several years in
the United States meeting
her husband Eric and completing a Bachelor
of Science in Music Education and Bachelor of Arts in Music Performance.
Her background includes teaching, training, program coordination and
development. Kristy is looking forward to adding "techie" to the
list.
When Kristy isn't developing online
courses with CTET, she spends most of her free time singing with Pacific
Opera Victoria, as well as leisure activities including hiking,
cycling, yoga, and camping.

Tri Ningsih
Tri
Ningsih joined the unit in 2006 as a Web Developer.
Tri emigrated from the
balmy shores of Indonesia to the blustery, rugged climate of New
Brunswick about 6 years ago. There she earned a degree in Computer
Science. She wrote her senior report on e-learning and worked at
UNB as a research assistant. She moved to Victoria in May 2006 and
joined RRU a few months later.
Tri is fluent in Indonesian
and Persian, and has a working knowledge of Spanish. Outside her
work, she enjoys challenging herself by skiing and rock climbing.

Carrie Williams
Carrie Williams is a Technical Trainer Coordinator with the Centre for Teaching and Educational Technologies. Carrie works to ensure that our learners understand, and are able to work comfortably in, our online learning platform. She is responsible for developing, maintaining, and delivering training material/documentation.
Carrie has worked with Royal Roads since June of 2000 in numerous capacities: corporate and learner training; website support; hardware deployment and support; and end user support for faculty, staff, and learners. Carrie
is a graduate of RRU's Bachelor of Commerce in Entrepreneurial
Management program, has a diploma in Computer Systems Technology from Camosun College,
and an Instructional Skills Workshop (ISW) certificate from RRU. In her spare time, you might find her scrap-booking, spending time with her family, or cuddling her two pups Peanut and Buster.

Faculty Development Support:

Tami Saj
Tami joined CTET in September 2003.
She works primarily in the areas of Faculty
Development and Quality Assurance.
A certified Executive Coach and graduate of RRU's Graduate
Certificate in Executive Coaching, she came to Royal Roads with several
years of post-secondary and public sector administrative, research, and
teaching experience.
She has an Honours BA in Political Science, and has completed the
coursework for her MA in Political Science.
Her personal interests and pursuits include water
sports (particularly outrigger paddling),
tennis, reading, writing and exploring new places and things to do on
Vancouver Island.

Sonia Regnier
Sonia joined
the Metro team in March 2007 as an administrative associate.
She took over the role of Educational Technology Support
Associate in CTET in July 2008.
Prior to Royal
Roads, Sonia spent almost 7 years as a
corporate registry agent. She
has a Certificate in Business Administration from the University of
Victoria.
When she is not
at work you will find her playing the piano, clarinet or saxaphone, writing music, stamping, blogging, gardening, or entertaining
her 2
dogs and 3 cats.
